- Do you do custom/commission work?
Yes, as of January 2012 I’m doing custom/commission musical compositions and music production again. I’m more selective about what style of music I provide, though. See below (“Can you provide ANY kind of music”)
- How much do you charge? - What do you need for a quote?
I´m getting emails quite frequently where people ask me: What does a song cost? You can imagine that this heavily depends on a lot of factors! So here is a short list of what I need to know if you want a quote from me for a price:
- Very important: Do you need the music on an exclusive or non-exclusive level? (i.e. may I offer it to someone else, too?)
- Short song description, mood/feeling, speed
- length (approximately)
- Do you need your music seamlessly looping?
- Always nice and helpful: Reference songs (If you have a link (youtube or something freely available (legally!) for a song that is similar to what you´d like to have) – it´s always nice to get a direct impression of what kind of song the client wants. Of course I’m always there to make suggestions if you don’t have any idea about what kind of music would fit your project!
- Just try to give me as much information about the project as you can – e.g. if it´s a game: screenshots, demo versions, game play videos, even raw concept drawings are always helpful to get into the “mood” for the music the project needs.
- If you have a certain budget – don’t hesitate to name it and I’ll see if I can do something for you on that budget!
- Will you also do sound effects?
No, sorry. I´m not offering any custom sound effects.
- Can you provide ANY kind of music?
I´m actually specialized in epic cinematic orchestral / hybrid electronic kind of music. So if your project does NOT fit into one the following categories I’m probably not the right man for your music. I’m doing: Sci-Fi, Action, Drama, Suspense, Adventure, Dark, Romantic, Sentimental.
I will NOT provide:
- Music with vocals
- typical 8-bit/retro chiptunes
- typical “funny”/”cartoony” type of casual game music.
- Will you also work on a revenue share level?
No, sorry. I will not work on a revenue share level, nor for free or being mentioned on a credits page – only jobs with a fixed payment, please.
- How do you handle payment/music delivery?
I always handle payment with paypal. Usually I take 50% of the amount upfront before I start on any custom music (you´ll get a paypal invoice for that). You will get watermarked previews of your tracks while I´m working on them. Once you approved the finished music you will get another invoice for the remaining payment. After I´ve received the money I will provide the tracks as downloadable files for you.
Please note that all my prices/invoices are in EUR (Euro) – my local currency (Germany).
- Which audio format do you provide?
I usually deliver WAV files (44100Hz, 16-bit, Stereo) (“CD-Quality”) but I can also offer any common audio format (mono or stereo, no surround production at the moment)
- Are you composing music full-time?
No, my main occupation is software developer – I´m just working as a part-time freelancer as far as composing music is concerned.
